I'm actually very, very fond of Sanzo, although he isn't the comfortable fit that Gojyo is. I think he is actually a very good priest in terms of being a philosopher and a counselor, but he's very introverted, so this whole journey is tough on him.
Teams/close-knit groups are among my "cool bits," so as soon as I read in the prompt that the incident should include witnesses, I knew I wanted to have each of them give his viewpoint.
