I'm behind in my reading and just now catching up, but I'm so glad I got the chance to read this! Gojyo and Hakkai's story from the Burial arcs is a real favorite, and you've made a perfectly logical extension here. I particularly like the imagery you've used, especially with respect to the descriptions of the transformation, and the quiet conversation in the early morning hours at the end. Very nicely done. ^_^
