There was that wonderful analysis of the Mahjong game in Saiyuki 9, where the author pointed out how Goku's arithmetic skills had so vastly improved since the days when Hakkai had him doing math with oranges in the Temple - Mahjong scoring isn't exactly trivial. I have a feeling that Goku could eventual become a pretty good amature naturalist. In fact, when I was re-reading emungere's "The Hungry Pig" the other night, and they were talking about Goku sending letters from India, I had visions of him sending pressed flowers and little sketches of animals and temples to his two teachers, Hakkai and Sanzo.
